Saintes, 2000 years of history
Categories : Saintes, published on : 10/4/24
Saintes bears rich witness to its Gallo-Roman past: before it was called Mediolanum Santonum, the capital of Aquitaine! A stroll through the town and its historic centre will take you back in time. Stroll through a listed heritage site, past the Arch of Germanicus, the city's thermal baths, the Forum de Saintes and the beautiful Basilica of Saint-Eutrope.
For the curious, the Archaeological Museum will guide you through the life of the city and its inhabitants 2,000 years ago.
For music lovers, the Abbaye aux Dames, founded in 1047, has been transformed into a musical city! There are concerts, fun musical experiences, ‘siestes sonores’ and the Festival de Saintes, which takes place in July.
