Between its sea and its nature, the land is rich and full of sunshine. Here are a few specialities not to be missed during your stay!
The local cake is the Galette Charentaise, smooth and creamy, to delight gourmets at tea-time, for dessert, or when the mood strikes!
Mojhettes piates’ are the white beans of the region, for comforting dishes not to be confused with the magettes of our friends in the Vendée!
Serve with a glass of Pineau des Charentes, or a glass of Cognac!
Pineau des Charentes, whether red, white or rosé, is a blend of wine and cognac, producing a sweet, syrupy wine of incomparable smoothness.
For those who enjoy Cognac, the main grape varieties you'll discover are Ugni blanc and Folle blanche.
Immerse yourself in the world of these skills by visiting the Cognac Ecomuseum (www.domaine-tesseron.com), or by visiting a family-run business, such as the Begey & Fils pineau and cognac farm (www.begey.com).
Stroll through the heart of Saintes' Marché Saint-Pierre to discover these fine local specialities and meet the region's producers, market gardeners and fishmongers! Every Wednesday and Saturday morning.
Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health.
